Noble Fir, Abies procera, is called noble because it is the largest American fir and the largest of the true firs. In its native habitat it can grow over 200 feet tall. It is shorter when grown as a specimen tree, but this tall, narrow tree still needs a large, wide open landscape setting. It is a long-lived pioneer tree, meaning that it often comes in aggressively after a disturbance such as fire. And because of its quality and strength, the wood of the noble fir is valued over the wood of other true firs. It is also considered an excellent Christmas tree because of its beauty, stiff branches and long keepability, The seeds are food for chickadees, jays, nuthatches and many other bird species. The seeds are also eaten by Douglas squirrels, mice and other rodents,

In addition to food, the noble fir provides cover and thermal protection for wildlife.
